Intersection

We met in the darkroom while we both were majoring in photography at the San Francisco State University. I saw this beautiful and quite reserved long legs Asian lady and I thought hmmm, she is quite hot!

I was the teaching assistance to my professor Lewis deSoto for one semester. At that time I was doing some sort of survey for Lewis and what else is a better excuse to chat her up? We meet up and I ask her all the questions. I don’t have a car at the time and she offers to give me a ride home. When we arrive at my place I purposely left my phone in her car so I can see her again. It works! I got her phone number!

At that time the FIFA World Cup in Korea and Japan is going on. Being a big football fan, and knowing Young is Korean, I call her up and ask if she is interested in watching a Korean game with me. In the phone she says: “Sure lets watch the game together, I will give you a call later!” With high hopes I was anticipating her call everyday and she never called back. OK, she is not interested in me.

Time pasts, we both graduated. Through our friend Dave Nelson and Jessica Yamasaki we start hanging out and one of the first places we hanged was the Shannon Arms Irish Pub on Taraval St in the Sunset district. I remember vividly that Young claims she does not eat meat and she does not drink (although she rebuts that to this day). I always joked that I am the devil ;-)

Four of us started hanging out grabbing drinks. We chats about music and other stuff and I realize that she is not as reserved as I thought she is, she is actually quite a outspoken person, deeply care about all sorts of social injustice and volunteer at various non-profits organization. One time at the Arrow bar on 6th Street (now closed), she accidentally sat on my sunglasses and I jokingly say she owed me a big one.

That give me an excuse to went out alone with her. I moved to the awesome family of Warehouse 1310 and she helps me moved and paint my wall in red, and we start hanging out at Phone Booth- my favorite bar at the time, drinking Pabst eating free popcorn with Tabasco all the time. At that time we are not sure if we are dating or just hanging out. It was until we went to Bottom of the Hill to see my friend Sleepytime Gorilla Museum plays. At the concert she says some dude is cute and out of nowhere I got quite jealous. I finally realize I was in love! That night, we officially became boyfriend and girlfriend, it was September 11, 2002.
